My parents decided to organize a mothers day get together with some family. There was quite a lot of food so here are some Mother’s Day brunch ideas or just brunch ideas in general.
Scones! I made blueberry scones for the first time yesterday as well as chocolate ones and they turned out very well! They’re very simple to make but taste great and adds an element of sophistication if served with tea!
Apple crumble makes your house smell really good!
There were also bagels, home-fries, banana bread, date balls, chips, and salsa.
Finally it wouldn’t be one of our family parties without an excessive amount of fruit

I’ve gone to so many bakeries these past couple of weeks. I went to a French one were I enjoyed Belgium hot chocolate which was super good (also super expensive compared to Tim Hortons) and an apple fritter. I also went to a bakery with lots of sweets, I tried some macaroons and the best red velvet cupcake ever! I’ve also frequented at a milk and cookie store. If February isn’t your favourite month and you’re done with this cold weather I definitely recommend checking out some local bakeries to brighten up your day (I was gonna say “to make your day sweeter” but it felt really cheesy).

There are so many different recipes for Valentine’s Day like ombre cakes, red velvet everything, and things with excessive amounts of pink icing. I honestly don’t like anythings that’s too sweet like macaroons or icing so I thought I would find some ways to change up basic chocolate chip cookies for Valentine’s Day. These work well for Valentine’s Day bake sales too. The chocolate chip recipe I use as the base is located here.
For white chocolate chips just replace the 3/4 a cup of normal ones with white ones same goes for the M&M’s. Keep in mind that this will make the cookies a bit sweeter than normal. If you want to add sprinkles do it after they’re baked they won’t stick on too well but they’re great for a cute presentation. For people that don’t like sweetness as much melt some semi-sweet chocolate chips and drizzle it in a heart shape on baked cookies. And finally add about a tbl spoon of red food colouring to cookie dough to turn the batter red. This will give the illusion of red velvet but not change the flavour at all.
Although I kind of suck at spelling and athletic things I can bake pie. I think the recipe is the key to a good pie. My favourite cook book is Vegan Pie In The Sky. My favourite recipe has to be the raspberry pie it is sooo good (if I do say so myself). My family likes it to and my friends in case you need some more reassurance. If your resolution is to try out baking or your just looking for a good recipe book I definitely recommend the book (not if your resolution is to loose weight though).
I’ve eaten so many ginger bread cookies these past few weeks there was no way I was making more! I decided to try making ginger molasses cookies. I’ve seen these at lots of cafes (fine, Starbucks but cafes sounds better) I’ve never actually tried one so I thought I’d give it a try. Mine are just vegan and a lot less attractive than the ones at Starbucks.
I used this recipe here. They turned out well! Good taste, texture, and form. They’ve hardened up a bit though so I would bake them for a few minutes less and put them in a container as soon as they’re done cooling. Other than that they were a great success. The woman who created the recipe has a cookbook which I plan on checking out because of how good the cookies taste.
Here are some things I’ve been into lately.
I’ve gotten into baking pies recently, it’s one of my absolute favourite desserts so it’s nice to be able to make it myself instead of buying it. I’ve also been enjoying taking pictures of my feet in brightly coloured fallen leaves. Last Christmas I got a Martha Stewart heat embossing (it’s basically a blow dryer thing that you use to melt glitter stuff) card making kit and I’ve been into spending time making birthday cards. Of course I had to include a picture of my favourite holiday Starbucks drink the peppermint hot chocolate. It’s so delicious because tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream in a cup!
I’ve tried several things that are salted and caramel so I thought I’d give it a try by making salted caramel chocolate chip cookies. They turned out well but I would have put more salt on them and maybe instead of covering the caramel just leave the it on top. Definitively a step closer to making the perfect salted caramel cookies though. This is what I did.
1. Follow this recipe for the cookie dough.
2. When the dough is prepared use about half the dough to make 12 cookies and flatten them a lot.
3. Heat 2 tablespoon of milk in the microwave (any type will do).
4. Add 4 caramels (like the kind you buy at a convenience store). Then put back in the micro wave string often until the caramels are melted.
5. Drizzle the caramel onto the flattened cookies, top them with the remaining dough, and salt with a few shakes of salt. Then bake!
